I am not a fan of the "spider" in any of its shapes, sizes, species, etc. I understand that there is a use for them...they catch nasty bugs in their webs and eat them. This is all well and good. They may do this as much as they like. However, it stands to reason that this act of keeping the bug population to a minimum, must take place outside. OUTSIDE...
This being said, I understand that (to my knowledge) spiders cannot read. So it would seem that they have some excuse to come into my house. They are unable to understand the words "no spiders allowed". Rebecca tells me that I must put these words into spider language. So, does this mean I need to spin my own web? Hmmmm
I don't like them in my house, that is for certain, but I take comfort in the knowledge that I have not one, but as of today, two, spider slayers in my home! That's right, two. As we put the kids to bed tonight, there was a spider on Tim's bedroom wall. He didn't even flinch, just took a shoe and squished. I told him, with all the pride a mother of a spider slayer can have, that I was very proud of how brave he was. Without missing a beat, he looks at me and says..."Mom, I wasn't being brave, it's just my duty." How grown up he is becoming.
But alas, the bravery/duty only lasted so long. As an afterthought, Tim wasn't quite certain that he had actually slayed the spider. He came out of his room very worried that his job was, perhaps, incomplete. With a little chat, and some help from his dream catcher, (another story) he was able to get back to bed without worry.
I suppose that spider slayers must also have their moments of fear.
